Jesus Wept

John 11:35, "Jesus wept." ~ (NASB)

Have you ever WEPT? Or maybe GRIEVED deeply? One thing is for certain, it is Spiritual to WEEP! If Jesus did it, so should we, but why did He WEEP?

Most believe are wrongly what the Jews said in the next verse as THE reason.

John 11:36, "So the Jews were saying, “See how He loved him!” ~ (NASB)

Jesus did love Lazarus, yet this isn't why Jesus WEPT. He had foretold OF His friend's DEATH. If He knew Lazarus would die and then be raised, why would Jesus cry?

John 11:4, "But when Jesus heard this, He said, “This sickness is not to end in death, but for the glory of God, so that the Son of God may be glorified by it.” ~ (NASB)

Still, they did NOT LISTEN to Him when He kept telling them what was going to happen with Lazarus. First He told the disciples who think they are all going to their DEATH instead of the Lazarus' RESURRECTION. Then He tells Martha, then Mary, but they both do not get it. After He turned to the tomb, Jesus knows this is the point where EVERYTHING CHANGES. Many jews and pharisees were opposed to Him. This is why He WEEPS.

He knows the Cross will now be imminent after Lazarus' RESURRECTIONS and therefore so is the CONDEMNATION, OR JUDGEMENT, of the pharisees who wrongly JUDGE Him, and so Jesus WEPT because of their LOST SOULS. Jesus already knew Lazarus was coming to LIFE and the pharisees were going to HELL.

We need to take great comfort that we serve a God who has WEPT over those who HATE Him. Are we a people, like Jesus, who over the LOST have WEPT?

9 Jesus answered, “Are there not twelve hours in the day? If anyone walks in the day, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world. 10 But if anyone walks in the night, he stumbles, because the light is not in him.” - John 11:9-10 (NASB)

This is the key to understanding why Jesus WEPT. Who sees by the light and who sees by the night? Believers should see by the light and do not see by night.

Are you one who can be counted as seeing by the light? Let's be a people, who like Jesus, who has prayed for the lost and has WEPT as Jesus WEPT.
